Turning quantity into quality On average, every corporate job opening attracts 250 resumes, but only 4 to 6 of these applicants will receive an interview and only one will be extended an offer for the job. Letâs say a recruiterâs goal is to make 8-12 hires a month, this means they would have to review about 2,000 resumes, which is on the low end, to find the right applicant. The average amount of time a recruiter spends reviewing a resume is 6 seconds, some may argue that is not nearly enough time to make a keep-or-toss decision but how are recruiters supposed to sort through all those applications and make a hire in a timely manner? Using AI technology to initially assess resumes for keywords and concepts hidden in the text would give recruiters the ability to turn those piles of resumes into a short-list of qualified candidates. Sending in their applications and resumes and then never to be contacted again; wondering day-in and day-out if someone received their information or even cared. 82% of employers think a negative candidate experience affects the company little, if at all, but much to their dismay, 58% of candidates who donât hear back from an employer are less likely to buy products from that company. Not to mention, people talk and word of mouth can be one of the biggest influences on a business as 34% of candidates who have suffered a bad candidate experience will share their experience on social media. But with more than 2,000 resumes coming in for the average corporate recruiter a month, how can they stay in contact with each candidate? This is where Artificial Intelligence in the form of a chatbot comes to the rescue. By using a chatbot to help candidates throughout the application process, recruiters would be able to improve candidate experience since 93% of job seekers cite unclear application instructions as the primary cause of a bad candidate experience. In a recent Gallup study, researchers found gender-diverse business units in the retail sector have 14% higher average comparable revenue than less-diverse business units. There is also a 15 fold increase in sales revenue of companies with a high rate of racial diversity. So why wouldnât hiring teams want to take initiatives to help diversify teams? Recruitment firm Hays asked more than 1000 hiring managers about a candidateâs attributes and suitability based on a single resume. Half the hiring managers received a copy of the resume with the name Simon at the top while the other half received one with the name Susan. In large companies (over 500 employees), 62% of hiring managers said it was extremely probable they would interview Simon and only 56% said the same about Susan. Implementing AI in the hiring process can help achieve the goal of diverse teams as it will rank and score candidates based on qualification and leave bias out of the decision of whom to add to the short-list of top candidates. Perhaps the boss is so cheap that they dont offer sick days. Or maybe people are fearful of missing something while out of the office. Or simply having imminent deadlines dangling overhead that must be met otherwise heads will roll. Whatever you call it, its an ugly workplace truth. Time and time again (especially in the winter season), really sick people who SHOULD NOT be at work drag themselves into the office to share their cold/flu/sore throat and spend the entire day wheezing, hacking, and sneezing, all the while fitfully pumping the Purell container on the edge of their desk to clean their hands in a feeble attempt to sanitize their work space. (Not that the HVAC system doesnt simply scoop up their cloud of contagion and spread it evenly throughout the office, anyway.) Yes, its true. I am a cold-hater. I loathe colds, but I also loathe people who try to be valiant and tough by struggling into the office, and end up spending very little time working but enough time sharing their bug. Most of them are ordinarily wonderfully pleasant co-workers, but once the germs invade their bodies, the viruses seem to take over their brains, too. This loathing its purely selfish, actually. I just know that once Sickie McSickSick arrives in the office, flush-faced with fever, that the odds have just skyrocketed that I will soon be feeling as miserable as they are and shortly, all of my work will be impacted just as much as theirs. Thanks, pal. And the fact that they coughed all over the copy machine isnt making me feel any better, either. Time to sneak out the sanitizing wipes So, really.Why cant we just stay home when we are sick, or at the very least, in the contagious phase? (24-48 hours after coming down with the bug) We dont want to be there. Our boss doesnt want us there either, and neither do our co-workers. So what gives? Will the world really end if we arent sitting at our desk? What in the heck are we so afraid of that we drag ourselves in despite wishing desperately to stay in our warm bed and pull the covers over our heads? I dont honestly know. Money-wise, any smart manager would realize that by offering (then enforcing) sick time will ultimately reduce the ripple affect (and therefore, lost productivity) caused by other staff catching the bug currently making the rounds, then calling in sick themselves. What little gains made by someone coming to work with the flu are quickly lost by additional staff subsequently picking up the bug and being absent in days to come. And I dont know about you, but trying to focus on an important task while burning away at a 102+ degree fever isnt my idea of fun. You can probably also make a good bet that the task might not be up to the usual quality when completed by someone in a delirious state of mind So do the rest of your co-workers a favor and take the day off, and get some rest. Your fellow employees will be much more appreciative and productive as a result!
